1. Who is the main character or protagonist of the story?
The son of the man who married a young woman is the main character of the story.
2. Make a quick list of the character's physical, mental, moral, or behavioral traits. Which seem especially significant to the action of the story?
The main character of the story seemed very calm and was focused mostly on his studies, "I was the one least affected by the disaster, partly because of my youth and partly because I was the only one in the family who wanted to study, hoping to enter the engineering college," (pg.77). When he was young, he was not really bothered by his father marrying a younger woman. He also had more trust in his father than his other relatives.
3. Does the main character have an antagonist in the story? How do they differ?
The younger woman his dad had married is kind of an antagonist, because she was the one who made the lawsuit against his family. They differ because the main character believes that he does not owe anything to the lady, but the widow believes he does, "'It's really the height of irony,' I said to the lawyer, 'that i should be required to pay maintenance to that woman,'"(pg. 79).
4. Does the way the protagonist speaks reveal anything about his or her personality?
The way the main character talks about his family, leads me to believe that he is very loyal towards his family. He was the one that tried to keep the peace between his older brother, mother, and father, "By way of smoothing things over, I would say, 'I have confidence in my father,'"(pg.77). If the main character was immature he would also let the anger, that his mom and brother also had towards their father, get the better of him. Instead of adding to the arguments between his father and the rest of his family, he just kept faith in his father.
5. If the story is told in first person, what is revealed about how the protagonist views his or her surroundings?
In the beginning of the story, the main character is more understanding towards the younger woman his dad marries. It seems like he does not really care that his dad marries someone else. The main character is more concentrated on his life, and getting into engineering college, so his main focus was school. As he gets older, he is more active with his surroundings and more aggressive about the situation with the widow about his dad. However, towards the ending, he also feels less anamosity towards the widow, making him seem more forgiving.
6. What is the character's primary motivation? Does the motivation seem reasonable to you?
The main character's primary motivation is to declare that he did not owe the widow anything, and that people should see her as a lady that charmed her way into his father's life and took their money, "She robbed us; then there was the death of my brother and my mother's distress," (pg.79). It does some reasonable to me because, most when most people see a young lady marrying or dating an older man, they jump to conclusions and claim that she is in the relationship for money. Not many people find it okay for younger women to really be in love with older men.
7. Does the protagonist fully understand his or her motivations?
In the middle of the story, the main character seems very sure that the widow only used his father. He truly believes that because she was pretty, she got what she wanted. Towards the end of the story, the main character is not as angry as he was before, "I forgot what I wanted to say. In fact words failed me, and I felt an inner peace," (pg. 80). When the main character saw the widow aged, and not as attractive as she used to be, he realized that she was also just a regular person, trying to move on with her life. Before, the main character thought the widow realied on her looks to use other people.
8. In what ways is the protagonist changed or tested by the events of the story?
The main character realizes that the widow also had feelings of her own, and he takes that into consideration. Instead of yelling at her with anger, he tells her not to worry.

I would choose Brad Pitt as the main character for "The Lawsuit" because in the story, the main character first starts out as a young man and then ends up as a man around his 30's-40's. I think that Brad Pitt has a young looking face, which would be perfect for the young main character. I also believe that if you add a couple of small wrinkles and little spots of gray hair, Brad Pitt can also play the older version of the protagonist. Instead of using two different people for the same character, we can just transform Brad Pitt from a young man to an older man. Brad Pitt is also known for his serious roles, so he would do just fine in "The Lawsuit".
